[FEB-04-19 10:12 PM  Anonymous] April: Message from Tom
Colleagues,
The 2018 calendar year has now come to a close, and the news is outstanding. The Go Greater campaign continues to track ahead of pace, and with the start of a new year comes an opportunity for us to think about 2019 and beyond.
Our colleagues across campus continue to identify very real and pressing opportunities, and I’m hopeful that we can continue to identify alumni and friends to support these new initiatives. We have incredible momentum, and if we continue our efforts at this pace, we can achieve even higher levels of excellence.
Thanks so much for all you have done and continue to do.  Best wishes for a healthy and prosperous year.
 Tom

Debbie Klapp Memorial Award Winner
Congratulations to Jon Cannon, the winner of the 2019 Debbie Klapp Memorial Award. This award acknowledges the attributes of a mentor, leader, collaborator, and innovative and creative fundraiser. It is named after our late colleague who inspired us with these qualities.  Each year, an honoree is selected by a panel of peers to recognize exceptional professional and personal characteristics, and a commitment to the traits this award represents.

ADVANCEMENT SPOTLIGHT
Leadership Annual Giving Team
There’s a pretty good chance you’ve never seen one of our Leadership Annual Giving Team members in person.  The LAGOs (Leadership Annual Giving Officers: Michelle Wagner, Hunter Moore, Stephanie Walker, and Danielle Cummings) are the “Road Warriors” of UF Advancement.  They are charged with a goal of at least 200 face-to-face visits each year, which means it’s not uncommon for a LAGO to have ten or more visits in a week, throughout the state and across the country.  At this pace, they spend three to four days each week working from their cars, eating bagged salad and protein bars, changing clothes when and wherever necessary, and generally being prepared for anything. They meet with prospects who are connected to UF through all colleges and varied interests, which requires a broad knowledge of all areas of UF Advancement. The mission of the LAG team is to drive the major gift pipeline and build the future donor base.  A LAGO will make an ask at every meeting, often working with a prospect to make their first gift, which is usually between $1,000 and $10,000.  These test gifts can lead to more generous gifts, and so our LAGOs are always looking to identify the next major gift donor to refer to a college or unit. With all of this running around, you might expect the team to be loosely connected.  In fact, they have built a lot of trust and have a strong connection to one another. Each member of the team has an area of specialty, and can provide support to others when needed.  They are in constant contact via text when travelling, and are in a shared office space, the “bullpen” of the 105 Building, when back in Gainesville. Michelle, the LAGO with the greatest tenure, has the grit and determination to get a crazy amount of work done. Hunter is the wordsmith and keeps everyone positive. Stephanie is the chairwoman of the morale committee. Danielle, the newest member, has already shown that she is scrappy and creative. Elizabeth Kepple, Director of Development, Annual Giving, provides the leadership and mentoring that guides the team to success.  She supports their amazing tenacity and offers a safe space to try new things and make mistakes as part of the learning process. Not only has the LAG team had success identifying major gift prospects, the program has proved to be an excellent training ground for development officers. Some former LAGOs have gone on to join other units across campus, allowing new team members to come on board and bring fresh energy to the team. If you happen to catch one of our incredible LAGOs on campus, before he or she zooms off to the next prospect meeting, be sure to thank him or her for laying the foundation for the future of development at UF.

[FEB-05-19  3:46 PM  Anonymous] April: Please correct the spelling of Elizabeth Keppel's last name in the Advancement Spotlight.

[FEB-06-19  5:38 PM  Anonymous] April:  Jason, this is the addition I mentioned earlier.  It can be added wherever it fits best.

Organizational Announcement

The Donor Relations team and the VP & Campaign Events team will both be aligned under the Strategic Communications and Marketing Center of Excellence, effective February 15, 2019. This transition will support consistent messaging and branding, with a focus on connecting donors to the importance and impact of their gifts.

[FEB-08-19  2:40 PM  Anonymous] April:  Tom’s message, paragraph 3: delete “The Gator football Team sparked that old familiar excitement in the S”

RAISE, paragraph 1, line 3: change “their performance“ to “supporting organizational values”

Debbie Klapp, paragraph 1, line 1: delete space between “Jon Cannon” and comma

Diversity and Inclusion, this is a duplicate story (the Actor’s Warehouse story with the graphic is included farther down the page).  Can you move the “Gators Give Thanks Day – Recap” story here without the accompanying picture (I can’t identify the people, and it’s not really adding anything to the story). Also, if there’s room please expand the copy to read, “A huge thank you to the colleges, units and Central staff members who took time to say thank you to UF donors.”

Talent Management Updates:  Change header to “Talent Updates”

Dance Marathon: insert a period after “the beginning”

Organizational Announcement: replace the first sentence with, “The Donor Relations team and the VP & Campaign Events team will both be aligned under Strategic Communications & Marketing, effective February 15, 2019.

Diversity and Inclusion: Move the H.A.N.D. story above the Actor’ Warehouse story so they are in date order.

Deadlines/Reminders: H.A.N.D. meeting has been moved to EAH President’s Ballroom. The second H.A.N.D. meeting listed will be held on April 8, 10:30 AM

Advancement Spotlight, photo caption should read, “Elizabeth Keppel, Danielle Cummings, Michelle Wagner, Hunter Moore, Stephanie Walker”
Replace the story with this copy (I can list out the handful of minor edits, but thought this was easier):

[FEB-08-19  3:27 PM  Anonymous] April:
Remove the space after Jon Cannon: Congratulations to Jon Cannon, the winner of the 2019 Debbie Klapp Memorial Award.

Delete the "Gators Give Thanks Day - Recap" story that appears just before the Organizational Announcement, since we moved it to the top of News You Can Use.

After those changes are made, I will send a final proof to Kathy P.

When you bring additional fields into a conversion, Quickbase often finds inconsistencies. For example, say you're converting your Companies column into its own table. One company, Acme Corporation, has offices in New York, Dallas and Portland. So, when you add the City column to the conversion, Quickbase finds three different locations for Acme. A single value in the column you're converting can only match one value in any additional field. Quickbase needs you to clean up the extra cities before it can create your new table. To do so, you have one of two choices:

  • If you want to create three separate Acme records (Acme-New York, Acme-Dallas and Acme-Portland) click the Conform link at the top of the column.
  • If the dissimilar entries are mistakes (say Acme only has one office in New York and the other locations are data-entry errors) go back into your table and correct the inconsistencies—in this case, changing all locations to New York. Then try the conversion again.

Read more about converting a column into a table.
