Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.

[JAN-27-20  4:27 PM  Jason Phenicie] Good afternoon April,

I just wanted to check in on the status of the letter from Tom, the spotlight content, and the photos.

Thanks!
Jason

[JAN-31-20  3:32 PM  Anonymous] April:  Tom's message is below

Colleagues,

In keeping with our tradition, we were once again able to close calendar year 2019 in grand fashion with a number of gifts closing and keeping us on track for the midpoint of the fiscal year.

We’re already off to the Gator races in 2020, thanks to the great work of everyone.

Congratulations, and Happy New Year!

Tom

[JAN-31-20  3:47 PM  Anonymous] April:  in lieu of an Advancement Spotlight, please include the following article highlighting Ted Kruljac as the winner if the 2020 Debbie Klapp Award.

Congratulations to Ted Kruljac, the winner of the 2020 Debbie Klapp Award.  The award was presented to Ted at the All Staff meeting on January 21, 2020, by Dr. Li-Ming Su, Chair of the UF Department of Urology. Dr. Su acknowledged Ted's integral role within the College of Medicine, praised his work ethic, and recognized Ted as a model for collaboration and relationship building.
Debbie was a consummate professional who served the University of Florida and Advancement with skill and distinction for more than 20 years. A pharmacist by training, Debbie began her career with the College of Pharmacy, managing its alumni programs before transitioning to fundraising. Prior to the launch of the Florida Tomorrow Campaign, she moved to the Warrington College of Business Administration. Her work with WCBA laid the foundation for that college's successful fundraising effort. In addition to building its development team, Debbie played a primary role in cultivating and closing some of WCBA's largest Florida Tomorrow campaign commitments.
Debbie lost her battle with cancer in 2007, but her professional and personal contributions to UF and Advancement endure.  Her colleagues created the Debbie Klapp Memorial Award to honor this impact. The award recognizes development professionals whose hard work demonstrates collaboration, mentorship, creativity in approach, and overall professional achievement.
Ted was selected as a recipient of the Debbie Klapp award because he closely mirrors those exceptional professional and personal characteristics that made her so loved and admired by her peers.

[FEB-07-20 10:52 AM  Anonymous] April:  Please make the following edits, and let me know if you have any questions.

When you bring additional fields into a conversion, Quickbase often finds inconsistencies. For example, say you're converting your Companies column into its own table. One company, Acme Corporation, has offices in New York, Dallas and Portland. So, when you add the City column to the conversion, Quickbase finds three different locations for Acme. A single value in the column you're converting can only match one value in any additional field. Quickbase needs you to clean up the extra cities before it can create your new table. To do so, you have one of two choices:

  • If you want to create three separate Acme records (Acme-New York, Acme-Dallas and Acme-Portland) click the Conform link at the top of the column.
  • If the dissimilar entries are mistakes (say Acme only has one office in New York and the other locations are data-entry errors) go back into your table and correct the inconsistencies—in this case, changing all locations to New York. Then try the conversion again.

Read more about converting a column into a table.
