The Marcus Family Endowed Scholarship in Tourism, Hospitality, and Event Management

The Marcus Family Endowed Scholarship was established to recognize and support students majoring and/or minoring in Tourism, Hospitality, and Event Management, who have been impacted by mental health conditions, either their own or those of people close to them.  This scholarship is made in appreciation of the profound impact mental health challenges can have on individuals, their families and friends, while acknowledging the depth of the mental health crisis in college-aged populations. Because this scholarship is intended to provide support for students who have persevered despite these hardships, there is no GPA requirement. To be eligible for the scholarship, students are required to submit a confidential essay to the College of Health and Human Performance’s Scholarship Committee discussing the impact their experience with mental health has had on their life and how it has influenced their beliefs, education and/or career aspirations.

 Andrew (Andy) Marcus currently serves as a member of the Eric Friedheim Tourism Institute Advisory Board at the University of Florida and received a Doctor of Law (JD) from the University of Florida Levin College of Law. He and his wife, Dr. Deborah Marcus, have two children. The Marcus Family wishes to invest in students who have not allowed their educational pursuits to be deterred by the myriad of mental health issues that can impact one’s ability to focus, learn, and perform academically.
